Mountains, valleys, lush green forest and the wide range of climate conditions attract many different species of birds to the Mystique Heights surroundings, including migratory birds. Guests can wander around 50 acre land range.
The month of December has been declared as the National Bird Month by the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka, the national affiliate of Bird Life International.
In Sri Lanka there are 453 species authentically recorded to date, out of which 235 are resident and the number include the important 33 species that are recognized as endemic to Sri Lanka. Furthermore, 198 species have been recorded as migratory to Sri Lanka. The birds of Sri-Lanka can be categorized into three groups, breeding residents, migrants and endemics based on their occurrence in the country.
The endemic species are also breeding residents but are recognized as an important group within them due to their uniqueness.
Arrivals of the migrants coming from northern countries to Sri-Lanka start by mid-August and their departure commences by April in the following year.
Endemic species who live only in Sri-Lanka and are not found nowhere else in the world. Sri-Lanka possesses a high endemic species diversity of birds among countries of the South Asian region.
